• Japan Vlog - Tokyo shopping in Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya and Akihabara

April 2016 Another vlog from our trip to Tokyo. This video was recorded in the end of april. Here we are doing some shopping in Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya and Akihabara ~ —— There are so many places to shop all over Tokyo, and I won’t cover many of them here. I didn’t do that much shopping during this trip, but here are a few of the usual places that we visited. Miss Saigon, Shibuya: We started our day with some delicious vietnamese pho and spring rolls at a place in Shibuya, hidden away in a small building. The food was very delicious, but don't forget to ask for extra chili since they didn't add it (maybe they assumed we couldn't handle spices haha). And the restaurant had a sort of "vietnamese" vibe to it which I really liked. http://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1303/A130301/13004826/ Shi...

  • HARAJUKU SWEETS, SHIBUYA SHOPPING + ONE LAST TOKYO SUSHI TRAIN

It's my last day in Japan... sob. I spent my final day in Tokyo revisiting some of my favourite places (and shopping for souvenirs!). Join me for one day in Tokyo, exploring Harajuku and Shibuya. We start the day at Harajuku station and head straight to Takeshita Street. Takeshita street is the main street for shopping in Harajuku and it's a LOT of fun to walk down. With its bright colours, crazy clothing boutiques and the famous Harajuku sweets, it's the perfect place for people watching and soaking up the more colourful side of Tokyo. We look around some of the shops in Takeshita Street before heading on to explore the rest of Shibuya. There are two stores I've been told I have to visit in Tokyo so that's where we head next: Loft and Daiso. Shopping in Daiso turns out to be a pretty c...

  • Takeshita Dori - Street 4K - Harajuku in Tokyo - Japan

Takeshita Street (竹下通り Takeshita-dōri?) is a pedestrian shopping street lined with fashion boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Harajuku in Tokyo, Japan. Stores on Takeshita Street include major chains such as The Body Shop, McDonald's, and 7-Eleven, but most of the businesses are small independent shops that carry an array of styles. The shops on this street are often a bellwether for broader fads, and some are known as "antenna shops," which manufacturers seed with prototypes for test-marketing. Takeshita Street was a reliable place to go and purchase fake Japanese and American street brand goods from the early 1990s to 2004. Since 2004, a stronger metropolitan government stance on counterfeit merchandise has led to a decrease of such items being available to the public. Located directl...

  • Thrift, Consignment & Vintage Stores | NYC Fashion

Watch more New York Fashion Tips videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/502950-Thrift-Consignment-and-Vintage-Stores-NYC-Fashion New York City is known for its shopping, for the big boutiques and the brand names, but one of the things that it really does best is vintage or thrift and consignment shopping. Let's be clear on what the difference is. So vintage or a vintage shop means pre-worn clothing that's typically from another era. So at this point, yes, maybe 90's counts as vintage, but we're talking early 90's and before that. Thrift and consignment can be more contemporary clothing. So consignment means that someone's dropping it off at the store, and they'll get paid once it gets sold. So that's usually where you're going to find something that's something in-season or maybe a seaso...

Today’s “Walking Around” video will be all about the famous open-air market, Ameyoko. Located just a station away from Akihabara and Ueno, Ameyoko Market, or more officially Ameya Yokocho, is home to almost 200 stores. These stores sell pretty much everything, ranging from fresh vegetables and seafood to clothes, bags, cosmetics, other general goods. It even has a nice little Temple. Now, you may wonder why the name Ameya or Ameyoko is written in Katakana? Well, after the second world war, the place was famous for selling US army goods on the black market where the term AME (アメ) was the short form of the word AMERICA (アメリカ). April 2016 Another vlog from our trip to Tokyo. This video was recorded in the end of april. And the restaurant had a sort of "vietnamese" vibe to it which I really liked. http://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1303/A130301/13004826/ Shinjuku station: There are a lot of shopping malls in and around Shinjuku station. I quickly walked through Lumine EST to visit some of my favourite shops. I usually shop there, or at Studio Alta which is just outside the station. I didn’t go there this time tho. Harajuku - Takeshita street: A fashion loving teenagers paradise! Takeshita Dori (Takeshita Street) in Harajuku is a narrow, roughly 400 meter long street lined by shops, boutiques, cafes and, of course, crepes. Since it's a very popular street, it becomes extremely busy and crowded on the weekends. We then took a walk through the quiet and lovely neighbourhood of Omotesando, and headed for Shibuya. Shibuya 109: With eight floors and two basement levels, navigating the iconic shopping mall of Shibuya 109 can be difficult. And it's usually very crowded on weekends. I always pick up a floor guide on my way in, so I know directly where to go. But despite the narrow and crowded space, it's still one of my favourite places to shop in Tokyo. Akihabara: My boyfriend Johan had no interest of joining my shopping crusade in Shibuya, so he headed over to Akihabara instead. Akihabara (also known as Akiba) is famous for its many electronics shops, as well as stores devoted to anime and manga. In other words - an otakus paradise! Ichiryuu (一龍) in Komazawa We ended our evening at Japanese style Korean BBQ restaurant located close to where our friends were staying. They had really good quality meat for a reasonable price, so of course we had to try as much of it as we could. I really enjoyed their kalbi. A good yakiniku restaurant if you happen to be in the neighbourhood. http://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1317/A131707/13072486/ --- ▼ SONG IN THE VIDEOSilent Partner - How it began (Youtube audio library) Kevin MacLeod - Life of Riley Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1400054 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ --- ▼ EQUIPMENT ▼ Canon Cybershop G7X. You may have heard that Hong Kong is a watch shopping paradise, but you may have also heard that the deep discounts the city was once known for are now a thing of the past. These are both true in a way. You will not simply find a lot of new watches at unbelievable prices, but you will find a preowned watch selection like nowhere else. We easily spent 45 minutes just freaking out in front of a long display window tightly packed with what can only be described as watch lovers’ wet dreams. Not seeing the shop's entrance at first, I wondered aloud if it was a museum. When we had to tear ourselves away for a dinner meeting, we peeked around the corner only to see a hallway lined with more similar shops. How does the tiny island of Hong Kong compare to other major watch markets? It has been noted that there is a particularly strong and widespread culture of watch respect and appreciation among the Chinese. In terms of boutiques and new watch retail, I have personally never seen such a density of watch stores and advertising as I did in Hong Kong, except perhaps in SingaporeMacau is also purported to be not lagging behind. In Hong Kong, though, these multiple districts seem to be both large and many. Hong Kong has no sales tax - I can imagine how cheap and convenient it must be for the many Chinese shoppers coming from the mainland where watch prices are highly inflated due to import taxes, and that dynamic only bolsters Hong Kong’s watch scene. It is easy to say that Hong Kong has everything, from mainstream to niche, all the way down to the guys standing outside the high-end watch boutiques aggressively hawking replicas of what’s inside. So, while there is a lot to look at in terms of new watches in Hong Kong, we are here today primarily to talk about pre-owned watches. What do you think happens to all those crazy watches that are sold when their owners get tired of them? Many end up here, is the answer – and we reckon many more are yet to come. Pre-owned watches, as we know, can be a tricky thing. But while the wonderful Internet has served to equalize secondhand watch prices through information and education, it has also been a force in making buying safer, with more aware buyers and more accountable sellers. Most of those selling fakes and replicas seem to be upfront about what they are selling nowadays, anyway. In any market, fakes and “frankenwatches” remain a concern, of course, and while we cannot make any unequivocal guarantees about what you may encounter, we judged most of what we saw to be legit.

Shopping in Daiso turns out to be a pretty crazy experience too. After a day of shopping in Tokyo, we head to Genki Sushi for one last sushi train experience. This is one of my favourite Tokyo sushi restaurants and I'm definitely going to miss the 100 yen sushi! I hope you've enjoyed this Tokyo vlog. I still have two more Japan vlogs to come, so make sure you subscribe and check back soon for those. As always, thanks for watching!

Located directly across from the exit of JR East's Harajuku Station, Takeshita Street is very popular with young teenagers, particularly those visiting Tokyo on school trips, or local young people shopping for small "cute" goods at weekends.

So that's usually where you're going to find something that's something in-season or maybe a season or two old. Someone bought it, they spent a lot of money on it, they wore it a bit, and now they're done and want to get a return. So it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want to get some current clothing maybe a little cheaper, then you want to look at consignment, and if you want to get some super individual one of a kind pieces, that's when you want to look at vintage. A few things to keep in mind when you're shopping in either of these stores is fit. You can always get something tailored to be smaller. You're never going to get it bigger. So you can definitely go a size up, or if something feels a bit loose or baggy, you can definitely purchase that and then get it tailored. If it feels too tight, you're never going to be able to fix that. That's the same thing with shoes. So anything with vintage or thrift or consignment, when you're looking at it, it's not size the way when you go into a boutique and you say, "I'm a size 10 or a size 4". You're just going to have to try things on and then use your imagination to think, "What can I do to make this work?" And the plus side is, you're getting this on discount, so it's worth spending the money to tailor it. Take a dress that's maybe a little looser, and bring it to a quality tailor, and spend 20 or 25 dollars getting it fit perfectly to you. That's the benefit of vintage or thrift. I mean, you're not going to get a contemporary piece of clothing that's one of a kind and custom measured to you. If you go vintage, you can find something maybe from the 70's like a cool Maxi dress, and maybe it's a bit big, but you spend another 20 dollars getting it tailored and you have a one of a kind piece that you got for under 50 dollars. Another thing to keep in mind is digging. You've just got to put in the time. Most vintage stores and thrift stores in New York are merchandised pretty well. They put things in certain styles, certain colors and certain eras. You definitely want to take the time to go through every piece because you never know what's going to be hidden. A lot of the times, there's a lot of people in there and they're moving things around. It's worth spending that time to find that hidden treasure that no one else saw. The one thing you never want to do is buy something that's stained. It may seem like a good idea because you're going to get it for a really cheap price, but it's not worth it. You're not going to be able to get it out and you're never going to wear it. So if something has a red wine stain or if something even looks like it's just got a mark on it, it's probably been washed a few times. Someone's probably also taken it to the dry cleaner's, and if they didn't get it out, you're not going to get it out. So definitely look for clean things first and foremost. Then make sure that if it doesn't fit you perfectly, it's on the bigger side, and then just make sure to dig. If you're in the SoHo area, I love 11 on Prince Street. They have a great mix of sort of consignment, definitely some vintage, sort of 70's Americana style, and then some current products that they've designed as well. For really good consignment and sort of current season stuff, you should look at like a Tokyo 7 in the East Village, or Closet in Brooklyn. Those are places that just everyone in New York uses them, and you're going to get the mix of the high and the low, and it's going to be contemporary and from current seasons, and you're going to save so much.

Takeshita Street (竹下通り Takeshita-dōri) is a pedestrian shopping street lined with fashion boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Harajuku in Tokyo, Japan. ◆Please Subscribe My Channel https://www.youtube.com/simbosi?sub_confirmation=1 ◆Facebook https://www.facebook.com/simbosi.co.jp/ ◆Instagram https://www.instagram.com/junmatu8/
